Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning and Disinfecting

Kitchen exhaust cleaning or popularly known as “hood cleaning” is an intensive process which includes removal of the excess grease that has accumulated inside the hoods, ductwork, vents and fans of exhaust systems of commercial kitchens. The grease collected on the exhaust can lead to extremely hazardous situations such as kitchen fires and huge flare ups that could cause intense fire.

If left untreated for a longer period of time, kitchen grease can become immensely difficult to remove and clean down to the bare metal.

Cleaning kitchen exhaust systems is a chaotic process which requires intense labour work, a significant amount of time and the right set of tools and chemicals to remove the grease and other contaminants. At MFM, we take proper precautions to ensure that the cleaning process does not interfere with the rest of the kitchen space and maintain its cleanliness as is.

Disinfecting kitchen floors, shelves, appliances and other hardware is also an essential process that helps maintain the cleanliness and sanity of the kitchen. It is done by using special chemicals which scrape off any hardened residue of burnt, leftover or cooked meals. It also entails dissolving grease, oil stains that seem permanent on the metal hardware.

Process of Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning

Cleaning a kitchen exhaust is a step by step process which requires intensive work and professional expertise. Here is the process that we follow to clean kitchen exhaust systems for our customers:

Prepping up the Kitchen

Before we begin with the intensive process of exhaust cleaning and draining your ducts of the extra grease, we protect your kitchen appliances and floors from being splattered with grease. We cover them with tarps to prevent any grease or cleaning chemical splashing onto it during the hood cleaning process.

Removing the Hardened Grease

Once the kitchen appliances are covered and safe, we move on to remove the kitchen baffle filters and soak them in cleaning chemicals for a few hours. The chemicals loosen the grease build up before we pressure wash them to remove the hardened grease.

A major part of the kitchen exhaust cleaning process entails manually scrapping off the grease build up from the insides of the ductwork. After the hardened grease has been removed, a chemical mixture is sprayed on and allowed to sit for 30 minutes to an hour.

Cleaning the Exhaust Fan

We remove the kitchen exhaust fan so that we are able to clean both, the top and bottom of the fan with cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. We change the fan belt before we delve in to pressure wash the grease from the metal surface. The time taken for cleaning the exhaust fan depends on its size, amount of grease accumulated and the chemicals used. Our professionals use safe, non-intoxicating and potent chemicals that easily remove grease without producing any side effects to the metal surface.

Pressure Wash

Once the hardened grease is loosened out by the chemicals, the contractor blasts out any remaining grease by pressure washer. The pressure washer allows the left over grease to flow down with the water as it is collected in a container placed right below.

Replacing Filters and Polishing

Once the kitchen exhaust filters and hood are cleaned, they are ready to be placed back in their original position. To enhance the shine and give a neat look, we will also polish the outer surface of the kitchen hood that will maintain its look through weeks to come.

Inspection of Kitchen Exhaust System

After the filters are replaced, the contractor will check the entire system and make sure it is working in proper condition without any errors. The exhaust is checked to ensure that it is safe and ready to be used.

Clean up Kitchen

The tarps are removed and the floors are cleaned just in case the kitchen exhaust cleaning process messed it up. After the service is completed, a thorough feedback is taken which is evaluated and taken care of by our team to deliver the best services.
